Parish History
The parish is the product of two predecessor communities. St. John the Baptist was the original Plattsmouth parish, with the first Mass celebrated July 7 and its first church built in 1862 on the Missouri River. Holy Rosary Church was dedicated in 1891 to serve Czech settlers. Declining population and a priest shortage led the Diocese of Lincoln to merge the two parishes in 1971, forming Church of the Holy Spirit.

St. John the Baptist School
St. John the Baptist School is the parish's affiliated Catholic school, tracing its history to 1884 when parishioners took the initiative to establish a parochial school. The school retains the historic name of the original Plattsmouth parish and continues to operate under Holy Spirit's umbrella as a faith-and-academics partner for local families.

Traditional Latin Mass

Pentecost & Patronal Feast
