Church of the Assumption is a Roman Catholic parish in Mount Healthy, Ohio, a northern suburb of Cincinnati, in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Founded in 1854 by Archbishop Purcell to serve German immigrants fleeing cholera epidemics, it grew to serve roughly 1,200 families by the late 1950s and once ranked among the largest parishes in the archdiocese. Today it is part of the Our Lady of Divine Providence Family of Parishes, alongside St. Vivian, St. Bartholomew, St. Clare, and St. Bernard, and continues to offer Mass, the sacraments, faith formation, and outreach to the Mount Healthy community from its church at 7711 Joseph Street.

Members come together for Mass, the sacraments, and a network of active ministries — St. Vincent de Paul outreach, Respect Life, Knights of Columbus, Men's Group, Prayer Group, the 5200 Club fundraiser, Building & Grounds, Finance and Pastoral Councils, and bereavement and funeral support — while also supporting the regional Our Lady of Grace Catholic School. Worshippers here join a parish that still operates its own St. Mary's Cemetery one block east of the church and that connects, through the Our Lady of Divine Providence Family of Parishes, with four neighboring parishes for shared Mass times, staff, and evangelization.

Parish History
Church of the Assumption traces its roots to the cholera epidemics of 1847–1850, when German Catholic immigrants left Cincinnati for the healthier air north of the city. Archbishop Purcell formally established the parish in 1854 in the village of Mount Pleasant (renamed Mt. Healthy in 1884), built a first church, and within four years opened a school using materials shipped from Europe. A second church was dedicated in 1870, and in 1881 a beautification campaign added side altars, statues, frescoes, and stained glass. The Sisters of Divine Providence arrived to teach in 1894, a new school was begun in 1908, and Archbishop Moeller mandated English-language instruction in Catholic schools in 1921.

Faith Formation & School
Assumption is a covenant parish supporting the regional K–8 Our Lady of Grace Catholic School in nearby North College Hill, alongside St. Ann (Groesbeck), St. Margaret Mary, and Little Flower (Mt. Airy). Through the Family of Parishes, evangelization and sacramental preparation are coordinated by a Director of Evangelization. Families registered at Assumption and active in the parish receive in-parish tuition rates, with tuition aid available through the parish and the Elementary Scholarship Assistance Program (ESAP).

Outreach & Charity
Outreach is a defining feature of Assumption parish life. The parish St. Vincent de Paul Conference provides emergency food, vouchers for clothing, household items and furniture, and referrals to other social service agencies. The parish also actively supports the Mt. Healthy Alliance Food Pantry (operated out of the Mt. Healthy Christian Church, 7717 Harrison Avenue), and parishioners are encouraged to lend hands and feet through the parish Respect Life ministry, Knights of Columbus, and Men's Group.

Prayer & Devotions
A dedicated Prayer Group accepts prayer requests at any time. Paper requests may be placed in the locked prayer boxes located in church beneath the statues of the Blessed Mother and St. Joseph; requests can also be phoned or emailed to the Prayer Group coordinator. Parishioners are remembered at Mass and through the group's prayer chain.

Parish Leadership & Councils
The parish is led by Pastor Fr. Henry Hoffmann, who also serves as pastor of the wider Our Lady of Divine Providence Family of Parishes. Pastoral and Finance Commissions advise him on parish policy and finances; the Pastoral Council is composed of nine elected members serving three-year terms and meets on the third Monday of each month in the school meeting room, with all regular meetings open to the parish. The Finance Commission includes parish professionals and assists in preparing the annual budget.

Fundraising & Community Life
Assumption supports its mission through community-building fundraisers. The 5200 Club is the parish's signature raffle — a $10 ticket gives the holder a chance to win $100 each week for 52 weeks; winners' tickets go back into the hopper and a new club begins each September. The parish also hosts the Respect Life annual flower sale and other community events, and operates a Parish Center for private gatherings.

The Church of the Assumption operates St. Mary's Cemetery, located just one block east of the parish on Joseph Street. Cemetery plots remain available, and the parish office can assist with arrangements for at-need burials and pre-planning.

Our Lady of Divine Providence Family of Parishes
Assumption is one of five parishes that together form the Our Lady of Divine Providence Family of Parishes, a collaborative structure organized by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. The family unifies Assumption, St. Vivian, St. Bartholomew, St. Clare, and St. Bernard for shared pastoral leadership, evangelization, and back-office administration. As of August 17, 2025, the parish offices were consolidated into a single Family of Parishes office at the St. Vivian campus (7600 Winton Road, Cincinnati, OH 45224). Sunday contributions remain with each individual parish, and no parishes are closing as part of the consolidation.

The church itself remains open for scheduled Masses, the Prayer Boxes, and parish events, while day-to-day parish business is now handled by the Family of Parishes Office at St. Vivian.
