Why belong here

Christ the Redeemer is a bilingual parish that takes seriously its role as a spiritual home for everyone — 'a home for saints and sinners,' as the parish puts it. With a Saturday vigil Mass, four Sunday Masses (including a Spanish-language Mass at 3:00 PM), daily weekday Masses, and a wide range of family-friendly and formation ministries, the parish is built to welcome newcomers, young families, teens, adults exploring Catholicism (RCIA), and those walking through grief. The parish describes its mission plainly: 'No one who can serve the way you can' — and it actively recruits volunteers to live that out through youth formation, hospitality, and pastoral care.

History of Christ the Redeemer

Christ the Redeemer was established in 1983 in Thibodaux, Louisiana, as a new parish under Bishop Warren L. Boudreaux, the first ordinary of the Diocese of Houma–Thibodaux (which itself had been created by Pope Paul VI in 1977). According to the official history of the diocese, the parish was founded to serve the growing Catholic community of Thibodaux during the early years of the new diocese. In 1996, under Bishop Michael Jarrell, Christ the Redeemer and St. John the Evangelist parish in Thibodaux became the first two parishes in the diocese formally linked under a pastoral staffing plan — a model the diocese has continued to use. Today the parish identifies itself as 'a home for saints and sinners, a home for those who have questions about the Faith, a home for seasoned Catholics as well as those entering the Catholic Faith for the very first time.'

  • Founded 1983 under Bishop Warren L. Boudreaux
  • 1996: linked with St. John the Evangelist as the diocese's first paired parishes
  • Bilingual parish with a significant Hispanic community

Children, Family, and Youth

Christ the Redeemer places a strong emphasis on being a parish for families and young people. At Sunday Masses, the CTR Beginners program provides childcare for infants through age 3 in dedicated Infants and Walkers rooms (currently suspended for safety), and Children's Liturgy of the Word is offered for ages 4–8 at the 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM Masses. The parish runs a full Youth Formation (YF) program for grades 1 through 12, built around a 'mentoring, relational ministry' model and supported by an Adult Mentor Team of volunteers. The Coordinator of Youth Formation (CYF) role is treated as one of the parish's central ministries.

  • CTR Beginners babysitting (ages 0–3) at 9:00 AM & 11:00 AM Sunday Mass
  • Children's Liturgy of the Word (ages 4–8) at 9:00 AM & 11:00 AM Sunday Mass
  • Youth Formation for grades 1–12
  • Confirmation preparation (teen and adult tracks)
  • Active recruitment of adult mentors for the YF program

Becoming Catholic (RCIA)

Adults interested in becoming Catholic or completing their sacraments are welcomed through the parish's RCIA process (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). The parish describes its approach as a tailored, conversational one — 'we tailor RCIA around you, your desires, and your lifestyle' — and emphasizes that inquiring is a no-pressure step. A weekly group meets, and the parish invites anyone with questions simply to start a conversation by phone.

  • RCIA for adults seeking full initiation into the Catholic Church
  • Adult Confirmation also available
  • Contact the parish office at (985) 447-2013 to begin

Grief to Grace (Bereavement Ministry)

Grief to Grace is Christ the Redeemer's pastoral ministry for parishioners walking through loss. Its mission is 'to comfort and care for all those who are grieving,' and it offers one-on-one pastoral support by appointment, topic nights, discussion groups, book studies, and direct help with funeral preparation and implementation. The ministry is free of charge and open to anyone in need. The parish also welcomes volunteers who feel called to serve grieving families.

  • One-on-one pastoral support by appointment
  • Topic nights, discussion groups, and book studies
  • Funeral preparation and implementation assistance
  • Volunteer team of compassionate caregivers

50 Days Podcast & CTR HomeStudio

Christ the Redeemer has invested heavily in digital and audio ministry. Its flagship offering is the '50 Days' daily formation podcast, available on Apple Podcasts, Podbean, the parish website, and via daily email or text. Within its early rollout the podcast attracted more than 1,500 subscribers, and the parish has released a 50 Days Roadmap to walk listeners through a structured period of growth. The parish has also launched CTR HomeStudio, an in-house media project for creating and sharing formation content.

  • 50 Days daily podcast — email, text, Apple Podcasts, Podbean, and parish website
  • 50 Days Roadmap companion resource
  • CTR HomeStudio — parish media/content project

Parish Welcome: Navigate

For adults and families wanting to formally register at Christ the Redeemer, the parish offers a simple welcome process called Navigate. Navigate meets on Sunday mornings and is designed to welcome new members, receive them into the parish community, and help the staff get to know them. Registration begins with a short online form; a staff member then follows up personally to begin the welcome in person.

  • Online sign-up followed by personal staff contact
  • Sunday-morning welcome sessions
  • Includes information about CTR Beginners for families with young children

Serve at CTR (Volunteer Opportunities)

Christ the Redeemer maintains an active 'Serve at CTR' ministry-matching initiative built around a gifts-and-talents survey. The parish teaches that every member of the Body of Christ has been given unique gifts, and it actively invites parishioners to discern where the Lord may be calling them to serve. Volunteer pathways include the Youth Formation mentor team, CTR Beginners babysitters, Grief to Grace ministers, liturgical and hospitality roles, and more.

  • Online gifts-and-talents survey to help parishioners find their fit
  • Youth Formation mentor team
  • CTR Beginners staff (Koren Brochman, Lexi Delatte, Gretchen Melancon, Lou Pitre, Hannah Terrebonne)
  • Grief to Grace companion volunteers
