Christ the King Catholic Church is a small but devoted Catholic parish in Scottsville, Kentucky, located in south-central Kentucky about an hour north of Nashville, Tennessee. It was founded in 1964 as a Glenmary Home Missioners mission with just eight families, and for fifty years was served by Glenmary priests and pastoral staff. On August 31, 2014 the parish was formally transitioned to the Diocese of Owensboro. Today the parish is led by Fr. Tom Buckman, who also serves as pastor of St. Mary's Parish in nearby Franklin, Kentucky. The parish gathers for Sunday Mass at 11:00 AM, offers weekday Mass on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, supports a food pantry, religious education, Knights of Columbus, King's Angels, a youth group, and a busy schedule of ministries in the heart of the Bible Belt.

Members grow through CCD religious education (September–May), Sunday Bible Study, a Youth Group, Knights of Columbus, and the King's Angels women's fellowship. The parish is also visibly committed to those in need, running a Food Pantry open every Monday and a Ministry of Care that brings Holy Communion to the homebound, hospitalized, and those in nursing facilities.

Welcome to Christ the King
Christ the King Catholic Church in Scottsville, KY, is a small community in the heart of the Bible Belt. The parish is located in south-central Kentucky about an hour north of Nashville, Tennessee. Although it began as a Glenmary Mission church, Christ the King is now an Owensboro Diocesan parish. Parishioners describe their outlook as hopeful — the seeds planted long ago by founding pastor Fr. Berthiaume have taken root and continue to grow. Today the parish is pastored by Fr. Tom Buckman, who also serves St. Mary's Parish in Franklin, KY.

Our History
The parish traces its roots to 1964, when Glenmary priest Fr. Ray Berthiaume began celebrating Mass for eight founding families in a trailer across from White Plains School. In January 1965 the trailer moved to the parish's present four-acre site northeast of Scottsville, and in 1967 a multi-purpose building was constructed to serve as church, social hall, and religious classrooms. Through the 1980s and 1990s the parish was served by a long line of Glenmary priests, Glenmary Sacramental Ministers, and religious sisters, including Sr. Mary Lou Ruck, S.P., Sr. Lene Rubly, O.S.F., Fr. Frank Ruff, the Rewa family, Sr. Davida Loosbrock, and — from December 1998 — Fr. Dennis Holly as pastor of both St. Mary's and Christ the King. In 2003 St. Mary's was turned over to the Diocese as a self-supporting parish, and Fr. Holly was reassigned to Christ the King and Holy Family in Lafayette, TN.

Transition to Diocesan Care and the New Church
Under the leadership of Fr. Victor Subb, Fr. Crispine Adongo, and Brother Larry Johnson, Christ the King grew enough to be transitioned to diocesan care. On August 31, 2014 Bishop William Medley presided at the Mass that formally made Christ the King a parish of the Diocese of Owensboro, with Fr. Daniel Dillard installed as its first diocesan pastor. Years earlier, the parish had launched a three-year plan — two years of fundraising and one year of construction — to replace its aging building. The parish selected Scott, Murphy & Daniel as builder, broke ground in early 2008, and on Christ the King Sunday, November 23, 2008 Bishop John McRaith dedicated the new church.

Sacraments
Christ the King prepares members and their families for the sacraments of initiation, healing, and vocation. Parents are asked to receive baptismal instruction before a child's birth (or before scheduling the baptism). Couples are asked to contact the parish at least six months before their wedding date. The Ministry of Care brings Holy Communion to parishioners who are homebound, hospitalized, or in nursing facilities.

Religious Education & Bible Study
Faith formation is offered from September through May for children, youth, and adults. CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine) classes meet on Sundays at 9:15 AM; Bible Study is offered on Wednesdays at 9:30 AM and on Sundays at 9:00 AM. Together these programs help parishioners of every age grow in knowledge of Scripture and the Catholic faith.

Parish Ministries & Organizations
Christ the King runs an active ministry life with opportunities for every age and stage. Liturgy/Worship and Parish Council plan the parish's spiritual and pastoral life, while the Finance Committee and Planning Committee meet quarterly and bimonthly. The Knights of Columbus represent Catholic men's service and fraternity, the King's Angels gather on the second Wednesday of the month, and a Youth Group gives teens their own faith community. The parish also operates a Food Pantry open every Monday, and a Ministry of Care that takes Holy Communion to the homebound, hospitalized, and those in nursing facilities.

Outreach & Community
Outreach is a daily reality at Christ the King. The parish Food Pantry is open every Monday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and serves neighbors facing food insecurity in Allen County. The Ministry of Care carries Holy Communion to parishioners who cannot attend Mass because of illness or age, visiting homes, hospitals, and nursing facilities by request. The parish also participates in Diocesan collections and supports Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Owensboro (for example, welcoming Bishop Medley's announcement that 100 refugees would be resettled in the diocese, with help through the parish and an Amazon gift registry). Each year, the parish holds a Community Festival featuring a TV raffle, a 50/50 drawing, and a silent auction — a beloved tradition that brings members and neighbors together.
