Christ the King Parish is a Roman Catholic community in downtown Concord, New Hampshire, in the Diocese of Manchester. The parish was established in 2011 through the merger of three historic Concord parishes — St. John the Evangelist, Sacred Heart, and St. Peter — and worships at the St. John the Evangelist Church at 72 South Main Street. It is currently pastored by Father Richard Roberge and is part of the international Divine Renovation network of parishes, committed to moving from 'maintenance to mission' as missionary disciples. The parish runs an active food pantry, legal-aid clinics, faith-formation programs, and a wide range of outreach ministries serving the greater Concord community.

Parish Identity and Mission
Christ the King Parish was established in 2011 through the merger of three historic Concord parishes — St. John the Evangelist, Sacred Heart, and St. Peter — into a single Roman Catholic faith community in the Diocese of Manchester. The parish mission statement declares that, 'through the power of the Holy Spirit, [we are] committed to proclaiming the Life, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus, and forming missionary disciples who will transform our world.' History and the Three-Church Merger
Christ the King is the fruit of a multi-year diocesan restructuring. St. John the Evangelist, the oldest of the three communities, was established as a parish in 1855 and its present church was dedicated on March 14, 1869. Sacred Heart was organized in 1892 as Concord's French-speaking parish, with the current church built in the early 1930s. Bishop Peter Libasci's decision to merge the three parishes into Christ the King Parish in 2011 consolidated liturgical and administrative life onto the St. John the Evangelist campus; Sacred Heart and St. Peter were subsequently deconsecrated and placed on the market. The merger was part of a broader diocesan response to declining resources and the desire to refocus on core mission.

Divine Renovation
In 2016 Christ the King joined Divine Renovation International, a network of parishes committed to parish renewal and built on Father James Mallon's book 'Divine Renovation' and the model he developed at St. Benedict Parish in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The parish's goal is to move 'from Maintenance to Mission' — continuing to care for current parishioners while becoming outward-focused, invitational, and evangelizing. Three 'keys' guide the work: the Power of the Holy Spirit, the Primacy of Evangelization, and the Best of Leadership, all hung on the 'key ring' of the Eucharist and Prayer. Staff have attended the Divine Renovation Conference in Dallas, Texas.

Faith Formation: Emmaus
Emmaus is the parish's central faith-formation program, named for the Gospel scene in Luke 24:13–35 where the risen Jesus walks with two disciples, opens the Scriptures, and is recognized 'in the breaking of the bread.' Emmaus meets twice a week — Friday evenings 5:30–7:30 pm and Sunday afternoons 12:00–2:00 pm — with a shared meal, whole-community prayer, age-appropriate breakout lessons, and a closing send-out. Friday evening is also 'Youth Night' for grades 7–12, while the Friday and Sunday sessions both serve adults of all ages and children in grade 6 and under. All Emmaus teachings are recorded, and an online/Zoom discussion group allows deeper home engagement (online is not available for children's sacramental preparation). The 2025–2026 curriculum walks through salvation history from Creation to the Age of the Church.

Discipleship Courses and Children's Discipleship
Each season the parish offers new discipleship courses designed to help parishioners grow in knowledge and practice of the Catholic faith. Children's Discipleship provides fun, age-appropriate formation for children not yet of sacramental age. Alpha

Music and Liturgical Ministries
The Music Ministry invites singers and instrumentalists of all ages to participate in the Adult Choir, Children's Choir, Handbell Choir, Instrumental Ensembles, Funeral Choir, and as Cantors. The parish also maintains a Recording Ministry that supports the live-streamed liturgies, and additional liturgical ministries (ushers, lectors, extraordinary ministers, altar servers) sustain the celebration of Mass and the other sacraments.

Outreach and Social Justice
Christ the King's Outreach Ministries aim to 'deliver the hope of Jesus Christ to those who are struggling in the local community,' promoting the dignity, quality, and empowerment of life through the Holy Spirit. Programs serve the homebound, the homeless, those in need of food, those grieving, and the broader Concord-area poor — while also upholding the cause of life from conception to natural death.
