About the Parish

Christ the King Parish is one of three parishes in the Brockton Catholic Tri-Parish Collaborative of the Archdiocese of Boston. The Tri-Parish was formed in 2011 with the appointment of Father Joseph K. Raeke as pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes, Christ the King, and St. Edith Stein Parishes. The parishes describe themselves as 'a Roman Catholic Community, committed to journey together to God through prayer, Religious Formation, and service. Rich in diversity, we aim to bring God's word to all peoples and serve the needs of the many different communities within Brockton.' Christ the King worships at Saint Colman of Cloyne Church, 54 Lyman Street, while the Tri-Parish office is housed at 439 West Street.

History

The parish was born from the 2004 merger of Sacred Heart Parish and St. Colman of Cloyne Parish, less than a mile apart in eastern Brockton. Father David O'Donnell shepherded the process after serving as parochial vicar of St. Colman and administrator of Sacred Heart. The community voted 'Christ the King' as the new name — the same date, November 21, on which the parish was formally opened. The building chosen to remain open, St. Colman of Cloyne, had been founded in 1910 and dedicated in its current upper form in 1928. Sacred Heart, a French personal parish, contributed its school community to the merger. By 2011 the parish had joined a Tri-Parish collaborative that also encompasses Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Edith Stein (itself a 2003 merger of St. Edward and St. Nicholas). A 2015 'Celebration of Faith' booklet by seminarians Chris Bae and Joe Hubbard, illustrated by Joe Shaw, gathered photographs and memories from across this living Brockton Catholic history.

• Nov. 14, 2004 — Closing Masses for Sacred Heart and St. Colman of Cloyne.
• Nov. 21, 2004 — Christ the King Parish formally erected; opening ceremony at St. Colman.
• 2011 — Cardinal O'Malley creates the Brockton Catholic Tri-Parish Collaborative under Father Joseph K. Raeke.
• 2015 — 'Tri-Parish Celebration of Faith' honors the merged and closed Brockton parishes.

Parish Staff & Clergy

Christ the King is staffed through the Tri-Parish office. The Pastor of the collaborative is Rev. Matthew J. Westcott; he is assisted by Vicars Rev. Joaquim Furtado Garcia and Rev. Joseph LaRose, SMM (Montfort Missionaries), and Deacon Paul C. Bukow of the Archdiocese of Boston. The Tri-Parish office is led by Operations staff Thomas Gillespie and John Casey, with Pastoral Associate Scott Fearing (also RCIA Coordinator), Director of Liturgy and Music Jack Colombo, Director of Faith Life and Ministry Deacon Tim Booker, and Faith Formation Coordinator Nancy LaMonica. Ms. Adaugo Ugocha oversees Evangelization.

Faith Formation & Religious Education

Religious Education and Sacramental Preparation are offered collaboratively across the three Brockton parishes. Grades 1–8 classes are coordinated by Nancy LaMonica; Confirmation Preparation (now beginning in Grade 7 and concluding in Grades 8–9) is run by Deacon Tim Booker. For the 2025–2026 academic year, all Faith Formation classes, including Confirmation, take place on Sunday mornings (with one exception at St. Edith Stein) to ease the transition to Grade-8 Confirmation. The Tri-Parish also offers OCIA for Children for school-age children who have not been baptized or are preparing for First Eucharist outside the usual schedule, and special sacramental preparation for children with social or educational needs. RCIA — Becoming Catholic

Adults interested in the Catholic faith — whether unbaptized, baptized in another Christian tradition, or already Catholic but seeking Confirmation or Eucharist — are welcomed into the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). The process is a journey of catechesis, faith sharing, and liturgical rites culminating at the Easter Vigil with Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Ministries & Groups

The Tri-Parish offers a wide range of lay ministries. The Catholic Daughters Court Our Lady of Lourdes #2396 meets the third Tuesday of every month at 6:30 PM in the OLOL church hall, supporting scholarships and charitable works; the Music Ministry welcomes singers and instrumentalists (Thursday rehearsals, September–May, and a teen choir rehearsing briefly after some Sunday Masses); the Ministry of Consolation walks with families through funeral preparation and hosts an annual Mass of Remembrance; the Knights of Columbus brings Catholic men together in service and fraternity; and volunteers are needed to bring Communion to the homebound and to residents of local nursing homes. All clergy, staff, and volunteers must complete Virtus 'Protecting God's Children' training and a yearly CORI form.
