Christ Hospital is a Catholic chapel located inside The Christ Hospital Health Network in the Mount Auburn neighborhood of Cincinnati. It exists to provide Mass, the sacraments, and a place of prayer for patients, families, visitors, and staff — regardless of faith tradition — in the middle of an active medical environment. The chapel is administered through the Archdiocese of Cincinnati's Office for Health and Hospital Ministries and is currently served by members of the Cincinnati Oratory of St. Philip Neri.

Sacramental Care
Catholic chaplains ensure that the Anointing of the Sick and the Sacrament of Reconciliation are readily available to Catholic patients at The Christ Hospital, in line with the Archdiocese of Cincinnati's mission for Health and Hospital Ministries. Because patient needs are unpredictable, confession is not scheduled at fixed hours but is coordinated through Pastoral Services and the on-call chaplain.

Other Worship Services
In keeping with its hospital-wide pastoral mission, the chapel also hosts Protestant and ecumenical services for patients, families, and staff of all faith traditions. The Thursday evening prayer and healing service is a longer, ministry-focused gathering.

Pastoral Services Staff
Catholic chaplaincy at Christ Hospital is provided by priests and clinically trained chaplains. The current Catholic chaplain is Fr. Adrian Hilton, C.O., a member of the Cincinnati Oratory of St. Philip Neri, who also serves as Parochial Vicar at Old St. Mary's and Sacred Heart Churches and as chaplain at the Hamilton County Justice Center. Palliative Care chaplaincy is provided by Rich Rudolph, BCC, MAPM.

Pastoral Services can coordinate a chaplain visit in any faith tradition or arrange for a patient's own religious leader — pastor, priest, rabbi, imam, or other — to be contacted. This reflects the hospital's long-standing mission of serving 'no matter where they lived,' a phrase that traces back to Isabella Thoburn's founding impulse in 1889.

History of The Christ Hospital
The Christ Hospital opened in 1889 as a 10-bed facility called Christ's Hospital in a house donated by James Gamble at 46 York Street in Cincinnati's West End. Within four years the small complex was full, and in 1893 the Gamble family bought a building and four acres on Auburn Avenue in Mount Auburn; the relocated hospital opened there June 2, 1893, and was renamed The Christ Hospital in 1904. Over the next 125 years it grew into a regional network of more than 100 locations, while its mission statement — described by President & CEO Mike Keating as 'founded in compassion and driven by excellence' — has remained the same.
