The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Wichita, Kansas, serves as the seat of the Catholic Diocese of Wichita. Its parish was founded in 1887, the same year Pope Leo XIII erected the diocese. Designed by architect Emmanuel Louis Masqueray, the present church was begun in 1906 and consecrated on September 19, 1912, dedicated by Cardinal James Gibbons of Baltimore amid 30 other bishops, with Archbishop John J. Glennon of St. Louis preaching. Built of Bedford stone, it remains the diocese's mother church.
