History & Significance
Cathedral · Est. Church dedicated July 14, 1958; designated a cathedral in 1982
Our Lady of Victory in Victoria, Texas, was built largely through a gift of over $600,000 from Tom O'Connor Jr. in memory of his late wife, with additional donations from area Catholics. The cornerstone was blessed in 1957, and the church was dedicated on July 14, 1958, and consecrated that November. When Pope John Paul II established the Diocese of Victoria in Texas in 1982, the church was designated its cathedral. It serves today as the seat of the Diocese of Victoria in Texas.
