History of Blessed Sacrament Parish

Blessed Sacrament was established in 1972 as one of two new parishes created that year in the Diocese of Salt Lake City (alongside Saints Peter and Paul in West Valley City). Its first pastor, Msgr. Robert Pollock, oversaw construction of the original church, rectory, and Parish Center. In August 1986 Msgr. Robert R. Servatius — 'Msgr. Bob' — became pastor and, with Dominican Sisters Barbara Stanek and Sharon Carroll, founded Blessed Sacrament Catholic School the same year. A new, larger church was dedicated on October 23, 2005, and on October 9, 2011 Bishop Wester blessed the parish's newly renovated offices. Msgr. Bob retired in 2016 after 30 years of service.

Pastoral Leadership

After Msgr. Bob's 2016 retirement, Fr. Samuel Dinsdale served as pastor for six years until his transfer to St. Vincent de Paul. In August 2022, Fr. Rodelio Ignacio ('Fr. Rodel'), previously of St. Mary of the Assumption in Park City, was appointed administrator. The parish is currently served by Rev. Carlos R. Guzman, RCJ, as Temporary Administrator (also Assistant Director of Vocations for the diocese) and Fr. Ryan T. Jimenez as Temporary Parochial Vicar, along with Deacons Gregory Werking and Marcel Soklaski.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament

The Blessed Sacrament is exposed for adoration Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday afternoons from 4:00 to 4:45 PM — a beautiful complement to the parish's eucharistic identity.

Parish Ministries and Groups

The parish describes itself as a place 'where everyone has something to offer and a role to play,' and lists multiple active groups on its Ministries page. The Knights of Columbus (Corpus Christi Council 6966, chartered 1977) support food drives, blood drives, bingo nights, and school poster contests. A Council of Catholic Women, a Legion of Mary, Instituto El Camino, a youth group, a Respect for Life ministry, a People with Disabilities ministry, and a Stewardship program round out parish life, along with lectors (who receive formation before proclaiming the Word at Mass) and a music ministry.

Principal Bryan Penn leads a faith-filled community where students participate in daily prayer, weekly school Mass, the Sacraments, retreats, 'Fridays with Father,' and seasonal liturgical celebrations, alongside a rigorous liberal-arts curriculum emphasizing communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving. The school website is utbscs.org and the office number is 801-572-5311.
