Blessed Sacrament Chapel is a culturally-diverse Catholic mission chapel serving Owensboro, Kentucky from a single block on Sycamore Street in the heart of the city. Erected in 1948 as a landmark of diocesan ministry to Black Catholics in Western Kentucky, it carries an intentional Afro-centric focus and welcomes all people to worship, fellowship, and good works. The chapel is staffed jointly with neighboring St. Stephen Cathedral and remains a small, family-style community whose current members include descendants of the founding families.

Welcome and Identity
Blessed Sacrament Chapel describes itself as a mission, established in the Spirit of Jesus Christ, committed to spreading the 'Word' through fellowship and good works. Our History
The community traces back to 1940, when Bishop Cotton assigned Fr. Robert W. Conner to minister to Black Catholics in Owensboro. After founding a school at 5th and Plum Street that same year, he relocated the school to the former Daviess County Consolidated Colored School at 7th and Sycamore in 1946. The chapel itself was erected on the property in 1948 as a diocesan landmark of ministry to Black Catholics across Western Kentucky. After the chapel closed in 1966 and a brief stint as a museum, Fr. John Bartolomucci reopened the school building as the Robert W. Connor Center in 1976, restoring weekly Sunday Mass and community outreach.

Blessed Sacrament School (1946–closure)
Operating out of the former consolidated colored school building, Blessed Sacrament School served grades K through 12 with class sizes between 35 and 55 students. The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth assisted with its establishment and continued to teach there until the school closed. The school doubled as the social center of the Black community in Owensboro.

Mass and Sacraments
The principal Sunday Mass is celebrated at 10:00 AM, with an additional Mass on the first Sunday at 9:30 AM. The chapel offers reconciliation through the sacrament of confession; parishioners are encouraged to contact the parish office for the current schedule.

Clergy and Staff
Blessed Sacrament Chapel is served as a mission of St. Stephen Cathedral. Pastoral leadership currently includes Fr. John M. Thomas as Pastor and Fr. Christopher Grief as Associate Pastor (Parochial Vicar). Deacon Richard Murphy assists with liturgy and outreach. Sister Monica Seaton, OSU serves as Pastoral Associate, and a parish life coordinator is also on staff.

Ministry life at Blessed Sacrament Chapel is rooted in its mission of spreading the 'Word' through fellowship and good works. Building and Facilities
The chapel occupies the corner of 7th and Sycamore in central Owensboro. The 1985 renovation gave the chapel its current façade, replacing the roof and adding central heating and air conditioning; the diocese sold the original school building to St. Vincent de Paul. A parish hall was constructed on the grounds in 2001 to support fellowship and ministry, and a complete renovation of the chapel was finished in 2024.
