Our History

The parish was established in 1916 in Mohawk, New York, and for more than a century has been a spiritual home for Catholic families in the village and surrounding Herkimer County. In the early 2020s, Blessed Sacrament entered a new chapter of collaborative ministry when it joined with Sts. Anthony and Joseph in Herkimer, St. Francis de Sales in Herkimer, and St. John the Baptist in Newport to form the Family of the Holy Cross Pastoral Network. The name itself — chosen to reflect the four points of the cross as the four parishes — was contributed by 10-year-old Gryffin Salamone, a Blessed Sacrament parishioner, in a naming contest organized by the network's parish leaders.

Blessed Sacrament parishioners are active in a range of lay ministries at Mass and beyond, including serving as lectors who proclaim the Word of God, Eucharistic Ministers who assist with the distribution of Holy Communion, and members of the parish choir who lead sung worship. The Salamone family is one example of multigenerational involvement: Sam serves as a lector and Eucharistic Minister, while Leslie sings in the choir and their sons attend weekly Mass with them.
