Our Story
Blessed Mother Parish was created in 1948, when Bishop Francis R. Cotton announced a major restructuring of Catholic parishes and schools in Daviess County to match Owensboro's southward growth. A new church was built on East 23rd Street and a school was opened, taught by the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph. More than seven decades later, the parish continues that mission under the Diocese of Owensboro, offering daily Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, a parish school legacy, and dozens of ministries serving the sick, the homebound, and the wider Owensboro community.

Faith Formation & Religious Education
Faith formation for children and adults is coordinated by Christina Barnard, the parish's Director of Religious Education. The parish maintains a long tradition of Catholic schooling through its connection with Owensboro Catholic Schools; the parish school legacy is rooted in the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph, who taught nearly eighty sisters-strong from 1948 until Sister Mary Timothy Bland's retirement in 2004.

Music & Liturgy
Blessed Mother's liturgical music program is led by Coordinator of Liturgical Music Patty Woerter. A range of choirs and ensembles serve Sunday Masses, funerals, and special liturgies, welcoming singers of all ages and experience levels as well as instrumentalists.

- Contemporary Choir — leads music at the Sunday 5:00 PM Mass; rehearses Sunday afternoons; especially welcomes middle and high school students

- Children's Choir — open to children of all ages
- Cantors — lead sung prayer at liturgies with no choir (meeting with Coordinator required)

Parish Ministries
The parish describes its ministries as ways of fulfilling the ministry each person has received in the Lord. From liturgical service to outreach to the homebound and craft-based prayer, there are many ways to get involved at Blessed Mother.
- Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion — assist priest and deacon in distributing the Eucharist and bringing it to the sick; training required
- Lectors — proclaim the readings at Mass
- Ministers of Hospitality — greet, seat, and assist with the Offertory
- Gift Bearers — bring up the gifts at Mass

- Welcome Committee — visits new families, hosts spring and fall brunches
- Ministers to the Sick and Homebound / Visitation of the Sick
- Hillcrest Ministry — teams of two visit Hillcrest Nursing Home on Sundays to distribute Holy Communion (every 2–3 months)
- Crafting Ministry (formerly Prayer Blanket Ministry) — meets 3rd Monday; knits, crochets, sews, quilts lap covers, hats, scarves, blankets, cowls, and shawls, blessed by a priest before distribution
- Bereavement Dinners — organizes and serves meals after Funeral Masses
Administration & Parish Leadership
Several standing committees advise the pastor and shape parish life. The Parish Council acts as an advisory board that introduces educational and social events and helps plan parish policy. Most committees meet on the second Wednesday of each month in the Family Life Center, with meetings open to parishioners.

Sacraments & Pastoral Care
In addition to the regular Mass and Confession schedule, Blessed Mother places a strong emphasis on bringing the sacraments to those who cannot easily come to church. The parish asks families to keep the office informed of anyone who is ill at home, in the hospital, or in a nursing home so that Holy Communion can be brought weekly.

Beyond its liturgical and outreach ministries, Blessed Mother hosts a calendar of events that builds parish fellowship, including an annual Church Picnic, seasonal Welcome Committee brunches, and the Men's Prayer Group, which meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.
