The community's Catholic roots go back to 1922, when it was established as a mission of St. Joseph Parish of Rayne; it was raised to parish status on June 22, 1954. Parish History
The community that became Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary grew up in rural Marais Bouleur (later Bosco, then Mire). Catholic life began with traveling priests from St. Joseph Parish of Rayne in the early 1900s, and the community was formally established as a mission in 1922. It passed through mission relationships with Coulee Croche (Cankton) and St. Theresa of Duson before being raised to parish status on June 22, 1954, with Rev. Edgar Bissonnette as founding pastor. A new church was built and first used on August 10, 1958; the old building became a parish/CCD hall. Over the decades the parish added a rectory, mausoleums, a bell tower, the Parish Life Center (1990), and the current rectory (2010).

Religious Education (CCD)
Religious education for kindergarten through 8th grade is offered through the parish's CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine) program. Students preparing for First Communion and Confirmation enroll through the same program. CCD Registration is held in the parish office each May, and classes for the 2026–2027 school year are scheduled as an intensive summer session in the Parish Hall.

Sacraments
Assumption celebrates the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church. The parish records its first baptism (July 3, 1954) and first confirmation (January 1956, with 72 young people confirmed) as milestones of its founding. Sacramental preparation for children runs through the CCD program; adults prepare through RCIA. Communion is brought to the homes of the sick and shut-in on request.
