History of the Parish
The community was established by Ukrainian immigrants who began arriving in the Omaha area in 1949, in the years following the Second World War. They came seeking a new life in America but brought with them a deep attachment to their homeland and to the Ukrainian Church. The years of adjustment — learning a new language and new customs — were frequently filled with nostalgia, and the parish grew out of that longing to preserve Byzantine Catholic worship and Ukrainian identity in the Midwest. Today, members who have attended since the parish's founding still gather here, and the church continues to be the heart of Omaha's Ukrainian community.
