About Annunziata · Houma, Louisiana

Annunziata Catholic Church is a Roman Catholic parish in Houma, Louisiana, in the Diocese of Houma–Thibodaux, dedicated to the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (the name "Annunziata" is Italian for "Annunciation"). Established in 1963 as part of the Houma Development Campaign Expansion Program, it grew alongside the Second Vatican Council, with its current facilities completed in 1965 when the Council adjourned. Today the parish serves roughly 974 families and is one of five diocesan centers for Hispanic Ministry, offering Masses in both English and Spanish. A weekly parish bulletin, "The Annunciation," keeps the community connected, and ministries span youth formation, the Altar Society, Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul, and the Hispanic community.

Our History

Annunziata Parish was born in 1963 through the Houma Development Campaign Expansion Program, with a tract of land purchased at Acadian Drive and Oakland Drive. Sunday Masses were first celebrated at Oaklawn School while the church, school, and rectory were built, and the current facilities were completed in 1965 — the year the Second Vatican Council adjourned. The founding pastor, Rev. Irven Bordelon, served from 1963 to 1966, followed by a succession of pastors who shepherded the parish through more than six decades of growth.

  • 1963 – Parish established; ~500 founding families
  • 1964 – Priest moves to semi-permanent rectory at 301 Wildwood Drive
  • 1965 – Current facilities completed as Vatican II adjourns
  • 1966 – Rev. Hubert Broussard becomes second pastor
  • 1969 – Rev. William McCallion takes over as third pastor
  • 1970 – Parish grows to ~1,000 families; Rev. Andy LePage joins as assistant pastor
  • Today – One of the diocese's five Hispanic Ministry centers
