Parish Overview

All Saints Catholic Church in Cannelburg, Indiana, is a mission church of St. Peter Catholic Parish in Montgomery, within the Diocese of Evansville. It gathers for a Tuesday evening Mass and a Sunday morning Mass at 100 W. 3rd Street, with confession before Tuesday Mass or by appointment. The parish's story is bound to the coal-mining heritage of Daviess County and to the older St. Peter's community two miles down the old Ohio and Mississippi (B&O) railroad line.

History of All Saints

Founded in 1891 by Fr. Bartholomew Piers of St. Peter's as a 'Chapel of Ease' for the miners and railroad workers of Cannelburg, the first church was dedicated on August 29, 1893. Over the decades the mission grew a resident rectory, stained-glass windows, and a parish hall, while the surrounding community shrank after the 1912 Mutual Mining Company boiler explosion. A 1953 fire led to a major rebuilding that gave All Saints its stone exterior, and another renovation in 1977—plus a 1979 steeple, lighted cross, and automatic bells—shaped the present-day building.

Because All Saints is a mission of St. Peter Parish in Montgomery, its day-to-day ministry is supported by the St. Peter staff. The parish secretary answers the same phone line and coordinates ministry across both worship sites.

Faith Formation & Religious Education

Faith formation at All Saints is shared with St. Peter Parish, which runs a Faith Formation & Education (FFE) Committee, formal Religious Education classes, and an active youth ministry coordinated by Jami Snyder. Catholic Social Action & Outreach

Outreach to neighbors in need is a hallmark of the St. Peter–All Saints community, organized by the parish's Catholic Social Action ministry and its long-running St. Vincent de Paul Society conference. A dedicated Bereavement Committee walks with families through the loss of loved ones and supports the parish's memorial work.

Sacraments

All Saints offers the Sacrament of Penance every Tuesday before Mass (5:30–5:50 PM) or by appointment, and celebrates the Eucharist on Tuesdays at 6:00 PM and Sundays at 7:30 AM. The full sacramental life of the parish — including baptism, marriage, anointing of the sick, confirmation, and first Communion — is coordinated through St. Peter Parish in Montgomery.

Liturgical music at All Saints is shaped by Music Director/Organist Angie Traylor, who serves the worship life of both All Saints and St. Peter. The rosary is prayed twenty minutes before each Mass at All Saints, drawing the small community into a contemplative rhythm before the liturgy.
