History
Our Lady Queen of Angels Parish was established on October 6, 1999, as a response to changing demographics and priest shortages. It was formed by the merger of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish (Polish) and St. John the Baptist Parish (Slovak). The parish’s roots go back to 1914, when Father Ignatius Pilz was appointed the first resident pastor of Central City. Masses were initially held in private homes and Widomski Hall before growing with immigrant communities. The parish reflects a legacy of faith, family, and strong work ethic, shaped by coal mining heritage and ethnic traditions, while adapting to demographic and economic changes.
