Who We Are

Students for Life of America is headquartered in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and its team of 80+ full-time staff has trained more than 213,000 young people to stand up for life. The organization currently serves 1,500+ pro-life student groups on middle, high school, college, university, medical, and law school campuses in all 50 states. SFLA creates strategy, policy, and programming to equip those most targeted for abortion to change minds, connects women and families in crisis with non-violent support, and advocates for public policy that protects both mother and child. It is a 501(c)(3) religious non-profit governed by a Judeo-Christian statement of faith.

History & Founding

SFLA traces its roots to 1988, when it was founded as American Collegians for Life by students at Georgetown University. The organization was reorganized and re-launched full-time in August 2006 by Kristan Hawkins, then a recent summa cum laude graduate of Bethany College. Hawkins had previously worked at the Republican National Committee and as a presidential appointee at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush, and served on Donald Trump's Pro-Life Advisory Council in 2016 and 2020. After the 2022 reversal of Roe v. Wade, which Hawkins announced from the Supreme Court steps, SFLA set three ongoing objectives: ending Planned Parenthood's influence in schools, ending student abortions, and developing lifetime leaders.

Mission & Beliefs

SFLA's stated mission is to 'recruit, train, and mobilize the Pro-Life Generation to abolish abortion.' The organization is governed by a Judeo-Christian statement of faith and describes itself as a religious non-profit. Its public messaging combines philosophy, science, and policy advocacy, and it has expanded its focus over time from campus group-building to include chemical abortion education, pregnancy support, community outreach, and electoral politics through its 501(c)(4) arm.

Leadership

Kristan Hawkins is the President of Students for Life of America and Students for Life Action, and is described by the organization as 'the CEO of the Pro-Life Generation.' She launched SFLA full-time in 2006 and has built it into a national network of more than 1,500 student groups. The executive team supporting her includes Tina Whittington as Executive Vice President, Kristi Hamrick as Vice President of Media & Policy, Erin Brownback as Vice President, and Lane Koch as Vice President of Strategic Communications.

Field Team & Campus Outreach

SFLA's full-time Field Team travels daily in their respective regions, visiting campuses to start, train, and mobilize Students for Life groups. SFLA describes this as the feature that sets it apart from other pro-life organizations. Regional Coordinators provide one-on-one mentorship, host free in-person trainings, and help groups run events, volunteer at pregnancy resource centers, and participate in national mobilizations.

Programs, Campaigns & Initiatives

SFLA runs a portfolio of named programs and campaigns that extend its work beyond campus group-building. Together these initiatives touch policy, research, leadership development, pregnancy support, chemical abortion education, and community-level outreach.

The Pro-Life Generation (PLG) Umbrella

The Pro-Life Generation (PLG) is an umbrella organization that encompasses SFLA, Students for Life Action, the Campaign for Abortion Free Cities, Standing With You, and the Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement. PLG is described as a nearly $20 million operation and the nation's largest pro-life youth organization, with a special emphasis on the Youth Vote.
