About Sidewalk Advocates for Life
Sidewalk Advocates for Life (SAFL) is a national, Catholic-aligned, Christ-centered 501(c)(3) nonprofit that trains, equips, and supports volunteer 'Sidewalk Advocates' who offer peaceful, prayerful, and law-abiding outreach to abortion-minded women and men outside abortion and abortion-referral facilities in the United States and abroad. Founded in 2014 by attorney Lauren Muzyka, SAFL is the nation's largest sidewalk outreach training program and functions as a 'gateway' that connects women in unplanned pregnancies to local pregnancy resource centers (PRCs) for parenting, adoption, ultrasound, and material aid. The organization frames its work as crisis intervention — sending trained advocates as 'paramedics arriving at the scene of the crash' — to redirect the demand for abortion toward life-affirming alternatives and ultimately end abortion.

SAFL's mission is to train, equip, and support communities across the U.S. and the world in sidewalk advocacy, offering loving, life-affirming alternatives to every person present at an abortion or abortion-referral facility so that demand for abortion is eliminated. Its vision is that peaceful, prayerful, loving, and law-abiding sidewalk outreach be present outside every such facility in the U.S. and beyond, redirecting all to life-affirming alternatives and thereby ending abortion. The organization operates under seven published core values that every certified Sidewalk Advocate affirms in a signed Pledge of Integrity and Statement of Faith: Christ-centered, Loving, Prayerful, Life-affirming, Peaceful, Law-abiding, and Victory-minded. SAFL also lists Excellence among its values and grounds its hope in the scriptural call to 'run as if to win' (1 Cor 9:24-27) and in 'victory through Our Lord Jesus Christ' (1 Cor 15:57).

History & Founding
Sidewalk Advocates for Life was launched on April 1, 2014, by attorney Lauren Muzyka, who had spent more than two years as Campaign Strategist for the National 40 Days for Life Team advising 300+ campaigns in North America. Muzyka drew on her experience as a trained sidewalk counselor, her work in front of former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson's facility, and her time on the very first 40 Days for Life campaign to build a research-based outreach system. She worked with researchers, former abortion workers, and pro-life leaders to design the program before launching it during a 'A New Dawn' webcast. By August 2020 SAFL had reached 10,000 women who chose life; by its tenth anniversary in 2024 it reported more than 22,000 babies saved and 282 locations.

Leadership & Founder
Lauren Muzyka, Esq., serves as President & CEO of Sidewalk Advocates for Life. A licensed Texas attorney, she earned a B.A. in Political Science and Spanish and an Advanced Certificate in International Affairs from Texas A&M University, then graduated cum laude from Ave Maria School of Law in 2009, where she interned with Alliance Defending Freedom, Americans United for Life, Liberty Institute, Texas Alliance for Life, and the Collin County District Attorney's Office. She has counseled on the sidewalk for more than 20 years and has been interviewed by national and international media outlets. Her work is supported by a National Team that includes a Programs Department providing full-time staff support to local teams.

The 3-Point Life-Saving Program
SAFL equips new and existing local sidewalk teams through a comprehensive three-point program: (1) Comprehensive Training through Sidewalk Advocacy Basic Training 2.0; (2) Ready-made Tools — flyers, palm cards, literature, press release templates, training manuals, and access to the Online Training Headquarters; and (3) Full-time Staff Support from the National Team, including legal guidance and pro-bono Christian attorney referrals. Local Program Leaders use these resources to recruit, certify, and schedule Sidewalk Advocates at the abortion or abortion-referral facility in their city.

Basic Training 2.0 & Certification
Basic Training 2.0 is SAFL's nationally-recognized certification course, available in both in-person and virtual formats. The virtual course consists of ten training modules (approximately five hours) hosted on the SAFL Online Training Headquarters. Upon completion, trainees electronically sign a Certification of Completion and the Pledge of Integrity, and are added to their local sidewalk schedule by the Program Leader. The virtual option is open to new applicants with a credible character reference and demonstrable interest in peaceful, prayerful, loving, and law-abiding outreach, as well as current Sidewalk Advocates seeking the 2.0 upgrade or a refresher.

Getting Involved — Three Ways
SAFL offers three primary paths for engagement. (1) Join a Local Team by contacting a Program Leader in your area, completing Basic Training 2.0, and being added to the sidewalk schedule. (2) Lead a New Location by applying to start an SAFL program in your community — a two-step process including an application and a phone consultation with the National Team; a free 45-minute mini-training and FAQ are available to help discern the call. (3) Give by becoming a Ministry Partner through the secure giving site; financial gifts fund training, tools, and staff support for local teams.

Statistics & Definitions of Success
SAFL publishes ongoing statistics to 'keep the community updated on all that God is doing in our midst.' The categories, defined on the official Statistics page, are: Save/Turnaway/Turnaround — a pregnant woman who accepts help at the local PRC, verbally shares she has chosen life, or accepts a free pregnancy test/ultrasound; Hopeful — a woman who leaves the abortion facility still pregnant to 'think about it' with literature and a PRC referral; Abortion Workers Who Left — workers who leave the industry, referred to And Then There Were None; Closed Facilities — permanent closure of an abortion or abortion-referral facility with an SAFL presence; and Current Number of Locations — sites running an SAFL program.

10-Year Milestone Impact
In its tenth-anniversary 'What A Year!' report (2024), SAFL celebrated 23,000 moms served and babies saved, 282 locations, 58 abortion facilities where Sidewalk Advocates had a presence that subsequently closed, and 13 abortion workers leaving the industry in a single year. Lauren Muzyka wrote: 'We urgently need your continued partnership to make critical advances in 2025 a reality… to bring more of our trained and committed teams to the 482 abortion-facility sidewalks that remain empty.' Coverage was estimated at about 35% of an estimated 777 U.S. abortion and abortion-referral facilities.

Partnership with Pregnancy Resource Centers
SAFL explicitly positions itself as a 'gateway' to local pregnancy resource centers, not a competing service. Muzyka has described the model as 'crisis intervention' on the sidewalk while PRCs provide 'ongoing crisis management': 'We're like the paramedics arriving at the scene of the crash. Our goal is to get her to the hospital, which is Christ, but the body of Christ is inside our pregnancy resource centers.' Advocates connect women with free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, parenting support, adoption referrals, insurance help, housing, job placement, and long-term material aid through the local PRC. SAFL also partners with Heartbeat International and refers every abortion-industry worker expressing interest in leaving to the ministry And Then There Were None.

Abortion Pill Rescue Strategy
In response to the rise of chemical (medication) abortion, SAFL has developed an 'Abortion Pill Rescue' outreach strategy aimed at women who regret starting a chemical abortion regimen. The organization has trained advocates to recognize the moment of regret, offer immediate compassionate help, and connect women with the Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) network and local PRCs that can support them medically and materially. Coverage of this strategy has been highlighted by Catholic outlets including Our Sunday Visitor and the National Catholic Register in 2024.

Legal Support & First Amendment Outreach
All SAFL outreach is conducted within First Amendment rights and complies with applicable local and federal law. Because sidewalk counseling has been the target of municipal buffer-zone and free-speech laws, Muzyka — a Texas-licensed attorney — has built a national network of Christian attorneys willing to provide pro-bono legal resources to local teams when issues arise. SAFL training explicitly equips advocates to remain law-abiding while maintaining a visible, prayerful, and effective witness at the facility entrance.
