About Blessed is She

Blessed is She is a Catholic women's ministry and sisterhood founded in 2014 in the Diocese of Phoenix. Its stated purpose is to help any woman who wants to radically follow Jesus through a vibrantly Catholic life every single day. The ministry creates beautiful and accessible resources, products, and experiences to deepen prayer and foster community — both online through its daily devotions and Member Community, and in person through small groups, brunches, and retreats. History and Founding Story

Jenna Guizar launched Blessed is She in 2014 after feeling, as a young mother in Phoenix, a hunger for adult Catholic community rooted in Scripture. Inspired by Protestant women's ministries but unable to find a comparable Catholic resource, she reached out to about 20 Catholic women bloggers she knew online and invited them to write daily reflections on the Mass readings. The first devotion was sent September 1, 2014, and within a few years the email list grew from a few hundred readers to more than 60,000. The devotions became printed Advent and Lent journals, then a full publishing line including a journaling Bible, and the ministry grew into an international sisterhood with in-person retreats, brunches, and small groups.

  • First daily devotion sent September 1, 2014
  • Roughly 200 subscribers by end of 2014; 2,000+ by 2015; 60,000+ by 2019
  • Early team of about 20 Catholic bloggers; expanded to ~40 writers
  • Originally shipped products out of the Guizar home in Tempe
  • Celebrated 10-year anniversary in 2024

Daily Devotions and The Word

The daily devotions are the ministry's flagship offering. Each morning, a free email is sent with a link to the day's Mass readings (via the USCCB) and a short reflection written by one of approximately 40 Catholic women writers ranging from college students to grandmothers. The devotions are copy-edited and reviewed by theological editors to ensure fidelity to Catholic teaching, and they form the spine of everything else Blessed is She does — sisterhood, study, and retreat flow out of the daily encounter with Scripture.

  • Free daily email subscription
  • Reflections on the daily Mass readings
  • Written by a rotating roster of about 40 Catholic women writers
  • Edited by a Managing Editor and Theological Editors

Member Community

The Member Community (hosted at connect.blessedisshe.net) is a paid private online space for Catholic women to pray, learn, and grow together. Members gather for daily live prayer, take part in Grow studies and book clubs, and connect in community and prayer channels. Membership also includes three resources shipped to the door each year (Advent, Lent, and a Virtual Experience kit), ongoing studies and devotionals, access to a virtual small group, exclusive shop discounts (10% off and free shipping), and invitations to in-person small groups.

  • Daily live prayer in the community
  • Book clubs and Grow virtue studies
  • Three annual shipments: Advent, Lent, and Virtual Experience
  • 10% off shop and free shipping
  • Flexible involvement — weekday rosary, studies, or casual community chat

Retreats and Gatherings

Blessed is She hosts both in-person and virtual women's retreats designed to help women encounter the Lord in community, worship, talks, the Sacraments, and silence. The signature Drawn retreat invites women to 'fall in love with the Lord all over again — or for the very first time,' while the annual Eucharist Summit centers the ministry's Eucharistic identity. A Drawn Virtual Women's Retreat is also offered, including sessions, a workshop, Adoration, Confession, and Holy Mass livestreamed into women's homes.

  • Drawn women's retreat (in-person)
  • Drawn Virtual Women's Retreat ($50)
  • Eucharist Summit (annual)
  • Advent and Lent seasonal gatherings in the Member Community
  • Sessions led by Catholic speakers such as Beth Davis, Rachel Herbeck, Crystalina Evert, Sr. Mary Brigid Burnham, OP, and Fr. Michael Niemczak

Regional Small Groups and Blessed Brunches

Alongside its online community, Blessed is She invests heavily in in-person sisterhood. Women can find or start regional small groups in their area — using BIS leader resources — or host a Blessed Brunch, a casual potluck-style meet-up that has been held by the thousands worldwide. The ministry also offers a virtual small group inside the Member Community for women whose geography or season of life makes local gatherings difficult.

  • Regional small groups searchable on blessedisshe.net
  • Blessed Brunches (reader-hosted potluck gatherings)
  • Virtual small group inside the Member Community
  • Leader toolkits and free resources to start a group

Blessed is She publishes its own line of Bible studies and seasonal devotionals, several under the 'Blessed Conversations' banner. The Gospel Studies series includes Seek His Kingdom (Matthew), Listen to Him (Mark), Preach in His Name (Luke), and Abide in His Love (John). Other titles include a Home Study on the Ten Virtues of Mary, the Dwell study on the Eucharist, an Advent study for teens, and the children's devotional Rise Up.
