About Charlotte Neurofeedback Associates · Charlotte
Charlotte Neurofeedback Associates is a neurofeedback (EEG biofeedback) clinic in Charlotte, North Carolina, founded in 2002 and serving Mecklenburg County. The practice is led by Clinical Director Kent Crawford and specializes in Infra Low Frequency (ILF) neurofeedback, a non-invasive, drug-free approach that uses real-time feedback of the brain's own electrical activity to help the nervous system self-regulate. The clinic works with children, teens, and adults on issues including ADHD, anxiety, depression, sleep problems, autism spectrum disorders, sensory processing differences, and trauma. The American Academy of Pediatrics has listed biofeedback as a Level One or 'Best Support' treatment for children with ADHD, a benchmark the practice highlights in its client education.
Charlotte Neurofeedback Associates was founded in 2002 by Kent Crawford alongside Dr. Robert Prince, M.D. and Iris Prince, R.N., and has been offering neurofeedback — also called EEG biofeedback or brainwave biofeedback — to Charlotte-area clients for more than two decades. The clinic operates out of Suite 218-C at 5200 Park Road in Charlotte and focuses exclusively on the Infra Low Frequency (ILF) neurofeedback approach, which presents both standard EEG brainwaves and deeper infra-low frequency brainwaves back to the client so the brain can 'see itself in a mirror' and shift toward healthier patterns of activity. Founder Kent Crawford has worked in holistic health for more than thirty years, beginning as a SOMA Neuromuscular Integration practitioner (graduating from the SOMA Institute in Gainesville, FL) and later training in nutrition with Bruce Pacetti, DDS (the Page System) and Dr. Jack Garvy (the Five Phases of Nutrition). He added a bio-energetic component via the German-developed Vega Test system, studying in both the United States and England, before beginning neurofeedback training in 1996 with Sue and Siegfried Othmer through EEG Spectrum International. The clinic serves children, teens, and adults dealing with attention and focus challenges, anxiety, depression, anger and oppositional behaviors, obsessive worry, sleep difficulties, trauma, ASD/SPD symptoms, and concussion-related issues, with the goal of helping clients 'get the brain out of the way' so they can be who they really are. The practice highlights the American Academy of Pediatrics' 2012 evidence-based report listing biofeedback as a Level One (Best Support) treatment for children with ADHD.

What Is Neurofeedback?
Charlotte Neurofeedback Associates describes neurofeedback as a process in which information from the brain is accessed and presented back to the brain, allowing it — 'for the first time' — to witness its own activity, 'to see itself in a mirror.' Through this feedback loop, the brain is encouraged to direct itself to a more favorable neurological choice, and when that choice is repeated across sessions it becomes the new norm. The clinic frames the nervous system as always striving to keep us functioning optimally, but explains that people often get stuck in dysfunctional modes of mood and behavior; neurofeedback aims to let the nervous system calm down and reset onto a better pathway. The practice also cites the American Academy of Pediatrics 2012 evidence-based report that lists biofeedback as a Level One or 'Best Support' treatment for children suffering from ADHD.
The ILF Neurofeedback Approach
There are several neurofeedback approaches using different methods, equipment, and software. Charlotte Neurofeedback Associates has settled on Infra Low Frequency (ILF) neurofeedback, in which the information presented back to the brain includes not only standard EEG brainwaves but also the deeper, more fundamental brainwaves in the Infra Low Frequency range. The clinic reports it has seen marked improvement in client results since switching to the ILF approach, and it is also known as EEG biofeedback or brainwave biofeedback.

Who Neurofeedback Can Help
The practice works with children, teens, and adults. On its site it specifically asks: 'Just can't stop getting angry? Or being anxious and depressed? Does it feel like you can't stop worrying or obsessing about something?' — and observes that 'most of us are being dragged around by our neurology.' Client comments the clinic highlights include boys who, after sessions, have been able to say things like, 'I didn't want to do that stuff. It wasn't really me. I just couldn't stop doing it.'

Meet Kent Crawford, Clinical Director
Kent Crawford has worked in the holistic health field for over thirty years. He initially practiced as a SOMA Neuromuscular Integration practitioner after graduating from the SOMA Institute in Gainesville, Florida. He later added a nutritional component, studying first with Bruce Pacetti, DDS (the Page System of balancing body chemistry) and then with Dr. Jack Garvy (the Five Phases of Nutrition). He incorporated a bio-energetic component using the German-developed Vega Test system, studying with English and German physicians in both the United States and England. In 1996 he began studying neurofeedback with Sue and Siegfried Othmer through EEG Spectrum International, and in 2002 he co-founded Charlotte Neurofeedback Associates with Dr. Robert Prince, M.D., and Iris Prince, R.N., serving as Clinical Director of Neurofeedback. After the Infra Low Frequency system was developed, Crawford switched to that approach and returned to further training with the Othmers.
