About Aarhus Chiropractic · San Jose
Aarhus Chiropractic is a single-practitioner chiropractic clinic in San Jose, California, owned and operated by Dr. Beth Marie Aarhus, DC. Founded in April 2003, the practice delivers personalized, appointment-only chiropractic care that combines spinal adjustments with on-site physiotherapies rather than the high-volume 'adjustment-only' model common in the Bay Area. Located near the intersection of First Street and Taylor Street in North San Jose, the clinic serves patients across Silicon Valley and has built a long-term following — many patients have been coming for 9+ years and refer friends and family.
Aarhus Chiropractic was opened by Dr. Beth Marie Aarhus in April 2003 after she had associated with other chiropractic offices and participated in a previous partnership. Dr. Beth grew up in Orange County, Southern California, earned an AS in Chemistry and an AA in Liberal Arts from Fullerton College and Concordia University (St. Paul, Minnesota), a Certificate in Family Studies, and a Bachelor of Science from Regents University. She then moved to San Jose in April 1995 to attend Palmer West Chiropractic, graduating in September 1999. She holds California Chiropractic License #27375, an X-ray Supervisor and Operator license (#RHC 148865), and in 2004 added an Industrial Disability Examiner Certificate and Qualified Medical Examiner license (#QME 965768); she completes annual CPR re-certification and continuing education. The clinic's defining feature is its low-volume, high-touch model: new-patient visits run 1.5–2 hours (history, neurologic/orthopedic/chiropractic exam plus treatment), and follow-up appointments last 45 minutes to one hour. Each visit blends spinal adjustment with physiotherapies such as neuromuscular rehabilitation, myofascial release/massage, manual or mechanical distraction, moist heat, therapeutic ultrasound, cryotherapy, electrical muscle stimulation, and therapeutic exercises — designed to heal the surrounding muscles so adjustments hold longer. Patients are not seen on a three-times-a-week, months-long schedule; the stated goal is fewer visits with lasting results, plus home-care coaching on sleeping, lifting, gait, posture, and workstation ergonomics. Conditions commonly treated include headaches, neck pain/'tech neck', shoulder pain, tendinitis, carpal tunnel, texting thumb, mid- and low-back pain, sciatica, disc injuries, ankle/foot pain, plantar fasciitis, muscle strains, poor posture, and general stress/tension. The office also handles Med-Pay auto insurance and car-accident liens. The practice is not affiliated with any HMO/EPO or Workers' Compensation plan and operates as an out-of-network provider for many PPOs (Aetna, AmeriBen, American Heritage, Anthem Blue Cross, Cigna, Great West, PHCS/MultiPlan, United Healthcare, etc.); cash, checks, HSA/FSA cards, and all major credit cards are accepted. Dr. Beth lives in Pleasanton with her husband and three children and volunteers with Sleep In Heavenly Peace, Wigs for Kids, Save Our Shores, Musicians on Call, Cards2Warriors, Dress A Girl Around The World, and Autism Speaks. The clinic has earned a 5.0 average rating across its public review profiles.

Meet Dr. Beth — Owner and Chiropractor
Dr. Beth Marie Aarhus is the founder and sole practitioner of Aarhus Chiropractic. She relocated to San Jose in April 1995 to attend Palmer West Chiropractic, graduating in September 1999, and passed all National Board of Chiropractic Examiners parts along with California licensing. She opened Aarhus Chiropractic in April 2003 after working as an associate and in a prior partnership. In 2004 she added an Industrial Disability Examiner Certificate and a Qualified Medical Examiner license.

Chiropractic Care Approach
The clinic's stated philosophy is that correcting the cause of a problem provides significant long-term benefits over treating only symptoms. Dr. Beth first prepares the surrounding soft tissue with physiotherapies and then adjusts only the subluxated spinal segments, on the principle that healed muscles help the adjustment hold. Care plans emphasize fewer, longer visits rather than the high-volume '3 visits a week' model used by many Bay Area clinics, and the practice explicitly does not offer quick 3-minute adjustment-only appointments. Patients are also coached on sleeping, lifting, gait, and workstation ergonomics so problems are less likely to return.
- Neuromuscular rehabilitation
- Myofascial release / massage
- Manual or mechanical distraction
- Moist heat

New Patients — What to Expect
A first visit typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours and includes completing intake forms, a thorough consultation and history, a detailed physical exam (neurologic, orthopedic, and chiropractic structural), and an initial chiropractic treatment with physiotherapy. The exam and history alone average 45 minutes or more, allowing Dr. Beth to learn the patient's background and educate them on aggravating daily habits. Routine x-rays are not taken in-house; diagnostic imaging is recommended case-by-case, and patients are encouraged to bring prior X-ray, MRI, or CT reports. When a patient's condition falls outside chiropractic's scope, Dr. Beth refers out to an appropriate specialist.
- New patient appointment: 1.5–2 hours
- Follow-up appointments: 45 minutes to 1 hour
- No walk-in appointments
- 24–48 hour cancellation notice required
- Bring prior imaging reports / CDs if relevant
