About Hospital Sisters Health System
Hospital Sisters Health System is a Catholic health care ministry headquartered in Springfield, IL. It carries on the charism and legacy of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis, continuing a long history of religious women and men who founded hospitals to care for the sick, the poor, and the dying. A Catholic health system sponsored by the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis, serving communities across Illinois and Wisconsin.
The Catholic health care mission
Like all Catholic health systems, Hospital Sisters Health System understands medicine as an extension of the healing ministry of Jesus. Care is guided by the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services, by a deep respect for the dignity of every human life from conception to natural death, and by a commitment to serve everyone — especially those who are poor, vulnerable, or underserved.
Caring for the whole person
Catholic hospitals care for body, mind, and spirit together. Beyond excellent clinical care, that often means chaplaincy and pastoral care, hospital chapels and the sacraments, prayer and spiritual support for patients and families, and accompaniment in times of suffering, birth, and death.
