About Ascension
Ascension is a Catholic health care ministry headquartered in St. Louis, MO. It carries on the charism and legacy of the Ascension (Daughters of Charity heritage), continuing a long history of religious women and men who founded hospitals to care for the sick, the poor, and the dying. One of the largest Catholic health systems in the U.S., rooted in a special concern for people who are poor and vulnerable.
The Catholic health care mission
Like all Catholic health systems, Ascension understands medicine as an extension of the healing ministry of Jesus. Care is guided by the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services, by a deep respect for the dignity of every human life from conception to natural death, and by a commitment to serve everyone — especially those who are poor, vulnerable, or underserved.
Caring for the whole person
Catholic hospitals care for body, mind, and spirit together. Beyond excellent clinical care, that often means chaplaincy and pastoral care, hospital chapels and the sacraments, prayer and spiritual support for patients and families, and accompaniment in times of suffering, birth, and death. Whatever you are walking through, you can connect with other Catholics near you, join Catholic groups, and find events through Catholic Connect.
