Cathedral · Est. Parish established 1842; cathedral church dedicated 1868

St. Augustine Cathedral in Bridgeport, Connecticut, traces to a parish established in 1842; the present Gothic Revival stone church was begun in the mid-1860s and dedicated on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1868, by Bishop Francis Patrick McFarland. It became a cathedral in 1953 when the Diocese of Bridgeport was erected, serving as the mother church of Fairfield County's Catholics.
