St. Vincent de Paul began in 1888 as a mission chapel opened by the local St. Vincent de Paul Society to serve Irish Catholic families in St. Paul's Frogtown neighborhood, with Father Laurence Cosgrove as its early resident pastor fostering its growth. The congregation later grew to hundreds of families and became notably diverse, including many Hmong members. On January 1, 2012, the Church of St. Vincent de Paul merged with the Cathedral of Saint Paul parish, and it now operates as the St. Vincent de Paul Campus of the Cathedral. It serves within the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.
