Cathedral · Est. Parish founded 1973; present church dedicated September 10, 1983; elevated to cathedral in 2002
St. Peter Chaldean Catholic Cathedral in El Cajon, California, began as a parish established December 6, 1973, with Father Peter Kattoula as its first pastor. The present church building was completed and dedicated on September 10, 1983, with a church hall added in 1989. It became a cathedral in 2002 when Pope John Paul II created the Chaldean Catholic Eparchy of St. Peter the Apostle of San Diego, carved from the Detroit eparchy. It serves as the seat of that eparchy, ministering to Chaldean Catholics across the western United States.
