St. Patrick Cathedral

History & Significance

Cathedral · Est. Cornerstone laid 1888; dedicated July 10, 1892

St. Patrick Cathedral in Fort Worth, Texas, grew from the city's first Catholic parish (1876). Its Gothic Revival native-stone church, designed by Fort Worth architect James J. Kane and built under Father Jean Marie Guyot, had its cornerstone laid in 1888 and was dedicated July 10, 1892. Raised to co-cathedral in 1953, it became the cathedral of the new Diocese of Fort Worth when Pope Paul VI established the diocese on August 22, 1969. It serves as the seat of that diocese today.
