The Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, known as St. Mary's Cathedral, serves as the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Grand Island, Nebraska. Catholic worship at the site traces to the late 1860s; the present cathedral was built 1926-1928, designed by the firm Brinkman & Hagan and modeled after Sainte-Chapelle in Paris. Cardinal Patrick Hayes of New York consecrated it on July 5, 1928. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
