The Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Wheeling, West Virginia, is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston and home to the oldest Catholic congregation in the city. The present church was commissioned by Bishop John Joseph Swint after a 1923 fire damaged the earlier cathedral; designed by Pittsburgh architect Edward J. Weber, its cornerstone was laid May 5, 1923, and it was dedicated April 21, 1926. Built in the Lombard Romanesque style with a cruciform basilica plan, its dome rises 148 feet above the crossing.
