Basilica · Est. Parish founded 1887; church completed c. 1913; raised to minor basilica 1998
St. Joseph Basilica in Webster, Massachusetts, traces to a parish founded in 1887 as the first Catholic parish designated for Polish immigrants in New England. The present neo-Gothic church, designed by John W. Donohue (longtime official architect of the Diocese of Springfield), was completed around 1913. After renovation it was rededicated in 1997 by Bishop Daniel P. Reilly, and on October 11, 1998 Pope John Paul II conferred the title of minor basilica. It serves the Roman Catholic Diocese of Worcester.
