St. James Cathedral in Orlando, Florida traces to St. James Parish, the area's first Catholic parish, established in 1881 when Bishop John Moore of the Diocese of St. Augustine purchased land. The present church building was completed in 1952. After fire damaged the original St. Charles Borromeo Cathedral, St. James was elevated to serve as the cathedral church. It is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orlando, which was created from the Diocese of St. Augustine in 1968.
