History & Significance
Shrine · Est. Founded as a parish in 1923; later designated a Shrine Church
The Shrine Church of St. Gerard Majella in Hollis, Queens, was established as a parish with an attached school in 1923 at 188-16 91st Avenue, in the Diocese of Brooklyn. Named for the 18th-century Italian Redemptorist saint who is the patron of expectant mothers, the church holds relics of St. Gerard and offers blessings for expectant parents and women hoping to conceive. It now serves as a designated diocesan shrine and, following a merger, forms part of the combined Parish of Incarnation–St. Gerard Majella.
