St. Bernard's Parish was established in 1868 for mostly Irish immigrants, and its Gothic Revival church on West 14th Street in Greenwich Village was designed by architect Patrick C. Keely and built from 1873 to 1875. The Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe, founded in 1902 by the Augustinians of the Assumption, was the first Spanish-speaking Catholic parish in New York City, serving the "Little Spain" district. The two parishes merged in 2003 to form Our Lady of Guadalupe at St. Bernard, serving the Archdiocese of New York and its growing Mexican and Hispanic community.
