Cathedral · Est. Parish established 1842; church dedicated 1868; elevated to cathedral 1953
St. Augustine Cathedral in Bridgeport, Connecticut, traces to the parish established in 1842, the first Roman Catholic parish in Fairfield County. The Gothic Revival granite church, designed by prolific church architect Patrick C. Keely, was dedicated by Bishop McFarland on St. Patrick's Day in 1868, with its stone tower and spire completed in 1894. It became a cathedral in 1953 when the Diocese of Bridgeport was established, and today serves as the seat of that diocese as part of The Cathedral Parish.
