The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary at 7 State Street in Lower Manhattan houses the Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton, the first American-born saint, who lived next door at the historic James Watson House (1793/1806) from 1801 to 1803. The parish of Our Lady of the Rosary was established as a mission in 1884 and raised to parish status in 1886 by Cardinal John McCloskey; the present brick church was built in 1964-65 by the firm Shanley & Sturges. In 2015 the parish merged with St. Peter's Church on Barclay Street to form one parish with two sites in the Archdiocese of New York.
