History & Significance
Cathedral · Est. Dedicated October 2, 1963 (as Guardian Angel Shrine)
Guardian Angel Cathedral opened on October 2, 1963, as the Guardian Angel Shrine on the Las Vegas Strip, founded by the Clerics of St. Viator (notably Rev. Richard Crowley) on land donated by casino figure Moe Dalitz to serve resort workers and visitors. It was designed by noted African American architect Paul R. Williams in a modern A-frame style. Made a co-cathedral in 1977 and cathedral of the new Diocese of Las Vegas in 1995, it became the metropolitan cathedral of the Archdiocese of Las Vegas when that see was elevated in 2023.
