Cathedral · Est. Dedicated June 28, 1968; elevated to cathedral in 2010
St. Stephen Cathedral is a Ruthenian (Byzantine) Greek Catholic church in Phoenix, Arizona, established in 1968 when the local Byzantine Catholic community acquired the former St. Thomas the Apostle Antiochian Orthodox church building. It was dedicated on June 28, 1968 by Bishop Stephen Kocisko under the patronage of St. Stephen the Proto-Martyr. After the 1994 Northridge earthquake prompted Bishop George Kuzma to relocate to Phoenix, it served as a pro-cathedral, then was elevated to cathedral in 2010 when the Eparchy of Van Nuys was renamed the Holy Protection of Mary Byzantine Catholic Eparchy of Phoenix. It is the seat of that eparchy.
