Cathedral · Est. Parish established 1919; church dedicated February 1924
Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish was established in January 1919 by Bishop Theophile Meerschaert, who assigned Monsignor Albert Monnot to lead it; the present brick church was dedicated in February 1924 by Cardinal George Mundelein, after a 1923 tornado twisted the steel for its bell tower during construction. In 1930 Pope Pius XI designated it the cathedral of the Diocese of Oklahoma City, replacing the former St. Joseph Cathedral. It serves today as the cathedral and seat of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, erected in 1972.
