Cathedral · Est. Parish founded 1923; designated cathedral 1994
The Maronite Catholic parish of Our Lady of Mt. Lebanon was organized in Los Angeles in 1923 by Monsignor Joseph Daher, with Father Paul Meouchi (later Maronite Patriarch and Cardinal) building the church, hall, and rectory after arriving as pastor in 1926. In 1966 the parish accepted the former St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church building near the Beverly Hills-Hollywood border, offered by Cardinal James Francis McIntyre of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. When Pope John Paul II established the Eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon of Los Angeles on June 23, 1994, the church was chosen as its cathedral. It remains an active Maronite cathedral and was damaged by fire on January 6, 1996.
