History
Catholic Charities USA traces its roots to 1910, when it was established as the National Conference of Catholic Charities to unify and strengthen the many diocesan charitable agencies serving the poor across the country.
Over more than a century, Catholic Charities agencies have responded to waves of immigration, the Great Depression, natural disasters, and ongoing poverty — providing food, housing, counseling, refugee resettlement, and disaster relief grounded in the dignity of every person.
Today Catholic Charities USA is the national membership office for a network of around 160 local Catholic Charities agencies, which together form one of the nation's largest providers of social services, serving millions of people each year regardless of faith.
